About The Area
Home to the legendary Robin Hood, Nottinghamshire is one of the UKs top tourist destinations; we’ve listed just a few of the nearby attractions when you stay at The Old Threshing Barn.
The historic market town of Southwell is only 3 miles away. This attractive town has an extensive range of independent shops, bakeries, cafes, historic pubs, restaurants and is home to the racecourse, which holds various meets throughout the year. The magnificent Southwell Minster Cathedral is often described as the jewel in Nottinghamshire’s crown and is well worth a visit.
The Old Threshing Barn lies in the village of Edingley and there are a wide range of eateries nearby in Halam and Farnsfield. We’re very lucky to be situated near an independent pop-up cafe (open weekends) and a farm shop. The cottages are located near the Robin Hood Way, so there are plenty of countryside walks nearby; we recommend the walk to Robin Hoods Hill, which offers wonderful views from the lookout point.
Newark-on-Trent is 10 miles away and has plenty on offer; home to the National Civil War Centre, a stunning riverside Castle, Air Museum and a thriving, cobbled Market Place overlooked by its Georgian Town Hall.
Beneath its modern and vibrant charm Nottingham city is steeped in history and culture. Visit the National Justice Museum, City of Caves or Wollaton Hall. Take in a show at the Theatre Royal or Concert Hall or simply relax at the oldest pub in England, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem.
Other attractions nearby include the Major Oak and Sherwood Forest, Newstead Abbey and historic Lincoln boasting its impressive Cathedral and Castle.
